Great lady. Very inspiring. But that art, I don't know what people see in it. I understand it is her expressing herself in a manner that makes sense to her. But I don't understand how it makes any sense to others. And I am not talking about understanding her state of mind. I mean how does someone actually end up liking 3 colored mountains with a wavy red sun. If I see it on a kindergarten wall, I will clap for the kindergartener who made it.

She says someone commented about her painting that, "I could do that." As if what she does is simple. It's not. The interconnection of lines and the weaving of colors that she does is incredibly complex. She makes it look easy because it's so flawlessly executed. As an artist looking at her work then trying to duplicate it as an experiment, it is amazingly intricate and as technically proficient as any "realistic" artist out there.

This artist’s works are really boring and uninspired to me. She’s the one who comes to my mind when the public discuss modern art as overrated, ugly, and unfulfilling to engage with as art. Many of the artists often cited, I actually “get” and love, and Hesse never seems to be brought up, but she’s the one for me whose art allows me to engage in those conversations. I identify with those feelings every single time I’ve ever seen any of her work. I’m not hating on her btw, just sharing my reactions to her creations. The fact her art represents something to me that allows me to identify with people who hold, overall, very different conceptions about art than I have makes me think “ah, well, maybe that is a work of art then!”
